Dr. Garvin’s open education work in EDUC-Q 200: Introduction to Scientific Inquiry stood out for its thoughtful integration of open educational resources into an asynchronous, lab-based course. She developed a "Lab-Hub" featuring inquiry-based labs using everyday materials and public datasets, along with accessible supplementary resources that eliminate the need for students to purchase costly lab kits. The redesign has demonstrated meaningful student impact, with DFW rates dropping to 6.1% in 2024 and 4.8% in 2025, while average course grades remained strong.
