Statement on Collaborative Collections

University Library is part of the network of Indiana University libraries across the state. IU Indianapolis-affiliated users can request most print materials available in this network using IUCAT’s Request Delivery feature. Electronic resources, on the other hand, are only available to users affiliated with the purchasing campus. Generally, IU Indianapolis users have access to all resources from all IU Indianapolis libraries. University Library frequently partners with other IU libraries to jointly purchase electronic resources, and all such resources are available to all currently affiliated IU Indianapolis users through the University Library website.

IU Indianapolis participates in several consortia agreements, and library users also benefit from statewide initiatives such as INSPIRE, an Indiana State Library service that provides all Indiana residents access to a suite of databases, and the Marion County Internet Library (MCIL), which provides all Marion County residents access to a suite of databases thanks to the support of The Indianapolis Foundation Library Fund. University Library takes these resources and cooperative agreements into consideration when making further selection decisions.

Resource sharing (i.e., Interlibrary Loan or ILL) is also an integral part of University Library’s Collection Development policy. Materials may be requested from any location in the world. The Library also supports the current needs of students and faculty by building the collection through selective purchasing of books requested through Interlibrary Loan according to established guidelines and procedures.
