Overview
The IU Indianapolis University Library is seeking a graduate student to assist collections assessment. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, interested in collaborating with others, flexible in their approach in solving problems, have some experience with data entry and have an interest in e-resource acquisitions and management within libraries.
Candidates for this position should be students pursuing a master’s in library science and interested in working at University Library.

Position Responsibilities may include:
- Collect and analyze current usage statistics from e-resource vendors; document the process of collection.
- Review historical usage statistics to identify incongruencies. Find, manipulate, and correct data to update when possible.
- Assist in documenting accessibility through collecting VPATS for the library’s e-resources.
- Collaborate with the library’s Collection Working Group to update qualitative data on e-resources used at IU Indianapolis.
- Read and interpret e-resource licenses and document selected sections in library’s 360 Client Center.
Required Qualifications:
- IU Indianapolis student enrolled in the Luddy Master’s of Library Science program.
- A keen attention to detail
- Strong desire to learn
- Oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to solve problems and exercise independent judgement within provided guidelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
- Interest in learning about e-resource management and collection assessment

The Collections Assistant will learn communication skills through collaborating with University Library’s Collections Working Group and the Content Services department. They will actively participate in meetings, training, and professional development. The Collections Assistant will analyze collection data to identify inconsistencies and will use problem solving skills to find the correct data if available. As a problem solver, the Collections Assistant will be able to critically assess a situation or problem and will learn the skills needed to address the issue.

The Collections Assistant will be a key player in keeping our collections statistics up to date and relevant to meet the evolving research, teaching, and learning needs at IU Indianapolis.

The collections at IU Indianapolis serve faculty, staff, and students with varied backgrounds and diverse disciplinary focus that have different information needs. In addition, as a state institution University Library provides resources to the local community. The Collections Assistant will help make the relevant resources available by supporting collection assessment that considers the impact to users. Through analyzing usage data and collaborating with library staff to learn about how resources are used the Collections Assistant will learn how to anticipate the consequence of making changes to a collection.
